Cross-drilled brake surface upgrade offers a cool new look

Compound brake discs are long established as a way to ensure safe and comfortable braking for large or powerful vehicles. The Formula:Z aftermarket upgrade with a cross-drilled brake surface is offering an even cooler look in comparison to regular, smooth brake disc versions, and is now available for more than 300 vehicle applications.

Zimmermann is the only manufacturer in the independent spare parts market offering a cross-drilled upgrade. The upgrade brake disc is on a par with the quality, material and dimensions of the original disc, but provides a more sporty design.

All brake discs are tested and approved in accordance with ECE and can be installed on vehicles with no special registration needed.

By offering an upgrade with the cross-drilled version of the Formula:Z compound brake disc, the brake manufacturer Zimmermann, based in Sinsheim, Germany, is addressing a significant trend: When it comes to luxury vehicles, car manufacturers and customers alike prefer open rims with large diameters.

For some time now, brake discs have no longer been thought of as functional parts to be concealed. They have instead become highly visible design features that underline the sporty and safe character of a vehicle.

Formula:Z is the safe choice for the most demanding requirements

Zimmermann has supplied high-end compound brake discs under the brand name Formula:Z for more than a decade. The cross-drilled update and the smooth version of the Formula:Z for models from Audi and VW are ECE approved and are therefore not subject to requirements for additional registration. As such, the cross-drilled version enables brake tuning without requiring conversion work.

In addition to their attractive appearance, both versions provide excellent braking comfort thanks to their substantially reduced weight and therefore lower unsprung mass. Both versions are equipped with high-strength and lightweight aluminum brake hubs and floating friction rings. This enables them to freely expand radially in the event of heavy strain without warping.

The cross-drilled disc upgrade also provides quicker cooling and shorter braking distances, particularly on wet roads. Water and brake dust are constantly discharged through the holes.

Coat Z coating for a high-class look over long-term use

Formula:Z brake discs come with corrosion protection to provide an even longer cooler look through the rims. The Coat Z Anti-Corrosion coating protects the brake discs against rust without affecting their braking performance. When the brakes are first worn in, the coating is rubbed off of the friction surface, but it continues to protect the outside diameter of the disc, the ventilation channel and the brake disc hub against rust. This ensures that the discs look well-maintained even after they have been in use for a long time.

Zimmermann is constantly expanding the range of Formula:Z upgrades – additional references are in preparation.
