Gerry Benson, founder of Benson Group, passes at 78

Gerry Benson, founder of the Benson Group, one of Canada’s largest regional automotive aftermarket distribution and service networks, has passed away at the age of 78.

The family has requested privacy at this time.

Gerry Benson passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital – McConnell Site on Sunday October 28, 2018 at the age of 78.

Benson was very involved in many community organizations and institutions in Cornwall, Ont.

As Chairman of the University Steering Committee Board in ongoing efforts to attract a university, he served as a true champion for the CIC (Cornwall Innovation Centre).

Gerry received the Business Lifetime Achievement Award by the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his outstanding achievements.

As the major sponsor of the Benson Charity Golf Classic he supported many charitable organizations notably the Msgr Rudy Villeneuve Foundation.

Gerry was the beloved husband of 56 years to Claudette (née Carriere) Benson.

Loved father of Marty (Gloria), James (Betty-Jean), Kelly (Lorrie) and Joy (Francois).

Sadly missed by his 6 grandchildren Kayla, Tyler, Chloe, Gabrielle, Sara, Alexa; and one great grandchild Samuel.  Predeceased by his parents Gerald and Annette (née Leduc) Benson.  Dear brother of Agathe Lefebvre (Bernard).

There will be no visitation.

The Mass of the Resurrection with Commendation and Farewell will was celebrated in Nativity Co-Cathedral 300 Montreal Road, Cornwall on Saturday November 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM.  Rite of Committal at a later date in Notre Dame Cemetery, Cornwall.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall.
